Entering The Artificial Age

by Olivia Waterman

As event planners, we always have to be one step ahead. It is important that we stay “in the know” so that our events can evolve and grow. Looking ahead into 2025, the event industry is on the cusp of a transformative shift, driven by technology and personalization.

The biggest trend impacting the event industry is the rise of artificial intelligence (AI). The popularity of AI has grown exponentially over the past three years. You may not realize, but this technology is all around us. Every time you make a Google search, use Siri, or talk to your Amazon Alexa, AI is activated. With so many people using AI in their personal lives, this technology will soon be integrated into the professional world.

So, how will AI be integrated into the professional lives of event planners?

Planners can utilize AI as a tool for boosting productivity. Tasks that would typically take hours can now be completed in minutes. Generating content such as email invitations, speaker biographies, and event websites will be just a few clicks away. AI platforms can also be used for analyzing attendee feedback to optimize future events. In other words, it will gather the most useful data from post-event surveys, and suggest ways to implement that feedback during the planning of your next event.

Organizations such as PCMA (Professional Convention Management Association) are already riding the AI wave. PCMA provides their members with access to the Spark AI platform, which allows you to streamline and enhance your event planning and marketing processes in many ways. Some features include personalized event recommendations, engagement projection and retention metrics, automated event communications, and satisfaction surveying.

In essence, AI platforms like Spark enable professionals to automatize their daily duties, giving them a competitive edge to efficiently perform event operations. Think of AI as your assistant, handling tedious tasks so you can focus on high impact work.

Event planners may also utilize AI as a tool for enhancing the attendee experience.

Imagine you’re at a networking event and you’re completely overwhelmed by the number of people in the room; you can talk to 100 people and still not meet that match. AI-powered networking is an amazing tool to maximize your time and social battery. It can help attendees make meaningful connections by recommending the most suitable people to interact with based on data within attendee profiles. AI can also suggest the most relevant sessions to attend based on each individuals’ interests.

From email invitations, to networking, to analyzing post event surveys, AI’s got your back.

The events of the future will merge physical and digital experiences in ways that were previously unimaginable. With new technologies such as augmented reality, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence, events will be more immersive than ever before. Understanding these emerging trends will be key for businesses, planners, and attendees to stay ahead in a rapidly changing environment.
